Zara Color Blocking

Color blocking is a big style trend for Spring and Summer. It mixes large blocks of color for an effect that is stylish and makes a bold fashion statement.  For those who embrace color easily, this style will be a joy, for others, who shy away from bright colors, color blocking can seem daunting.  I've picked two different "looks" from Zara's newest releases.  One for the bold at heart and another for those who want "hints" of this Summer trend.  While all these looks come from Zara, a large number of retailers have embraced color in their Spring/Summer collections, so you can use these vignettes as a guide when shopping at your favorite store.

Look 1 is all about bold color mixed with some wonderful bright striped pieces, perfect for work and play. I love the multi-colored striped skirt (right top), which could be paired with a blazer for the office, or with a great t-shirt and strappy sandals for a dinner out.  The orange bag (right) is a classic in both style and color. A take-off on Hermes orange, it will be a staple in your wardrobe for years, great with great grey pants in the fall, or as a great accessory when worn with your favorite little black dress.  If you buy only one colorful item this Spring, make it this bag!

Look 2 is a paired down take on the color blocking trend. White jeans are a Summer staple, so consider pairing them with a simple striped t-shirt under a  bright colored blazer. The addition of a vibrant bag, like the green one above, hits all the trend points. Also consider adding a great pair of sandals, like those left, as a way  to add a "pop" of color to an outfit.
